The break you need
Caring for a partner or family member with dementia can mean being on duty all day, every day.
Letting me spend a few hours with your loved one, in the calm, familiar surroundings of home, gives you time to rest, see a friend or get things done without worrying.
Arranging help for a parent? It works the same way. You can make the first call for them, and we meet at their home.
What a visit looks like

The meet-and-greet
You tell me their routines, likes and dislikes, and what calms them. I write down everything important: emergency contacts, health conditions and warning signs to watch for.

During
I keep to their routine
We might talk, have a cup of tea, listen to music, look at photos or take a short walk nearby. If they become unsettled, I stay calm and follow what works for you.

After
I tell you how it went
Before I leave, you hear how the visit went.
Visits are companionship: conversation, routine and a calm, safe presence. I don't provide personal care, medication or transport. If an emergency occurs, I will call 000, then you.
Meet Sam
I'm Sam. After twelve years in IT I retrained in care: a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) at RMIT, with a 120-hour placement in residential aged care. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology).
I love being able to give relief to carers who give so much for their loved ones, while offering gentle, calm social engagement to the person they care for.
I'll bring my police check, worker screening and insurance certificates to the meet-and-greet.
Price
$60 an hour, 2-hour minimum.

The same hourly rate every day, including weekends and public holidays. Longer visits cost less. Cancel free with 24 hours' notice.
How it starts

We meet at home for 15 minutes, with your loved one. It's free and there's no obligation.
We book the first visit at the meet-and-greet, or whenever you're ready.
It's normal to feel unsure about having someone in your home. That's why we meet first, with no cost and no commitment.
Common questions
Will it be the same person each time?
Yes. I do every visit myself.
What if they don't want a stranger in the house?
That is why we meet first. You're welcome to stay at home for the first visit too.
Do you help with showering or give medication?
No. I provide companionship and a calm, safe presence.
Are you checked and insured?
Yes: a National Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening, First Aid and CPR, and $10M professional indemnity and public liability cover. I'll bring the certificates to the meet-and-greet.
Can I use government funding?
Sometimes. If you have a Support at Home package and your registered provider allows third-party contractors, you can use that funding. I would link up with your provider to arrange it. Otherwise visits are privately paid.
Which suburbs do you visit, and how soon can you start?
South Yarra, Prahran, Toorak, Windsor and the surrounding areas. If you're outside these areas, please still get in touch: exceptions can be made case by case. We book the first visit at the meet-and-greet, or whenever you're ready.
